Week 4 of Wheel Throwing today and it was time to Week 4 of Wheel Throwing today and it was time to trim our second set of pots.

I think we’re all very proud of our attempts as beginners. Everyone’s pots look so great. These will go in the kiln now and next week we get to play with glazes which I’m really looking forward to doing.

I think I maybe need a new mantra, something like I think I maybe need a new mantra, something like "Make Something Monday”, can we make that a new trend? I recently received these swatches of a friend’s design. It’s such a cute harlequin design and from a collaborative Vintage Travel project we were both part of a while back.

Today I felt like doing something on my sewing machine so I lightly padded the swatches, backing them with a soft cotton fabric to see how they’d work. I’ll acknowledge my slight deviation from a straight line that is centred right in my photo, I know the keen eyed among you will see it’s there, then we’ll swiftly move on.

This design would be so fun for a child’s quilted vest, or a small bag or pouch, even a decorative pillow sham, maybe a Christmas stocking? Using the lines of the design as guides for quilting takes it to a whole new level of dimension and possibilities but keeps it a relatively easy project to master.

The design can be found on Spoonflower by searching 17758207 within the Design ID field.

Making the most of our AGO season passes with a vi Making the most of our AGO season passes with a visit to the ‘Monet to Matisse’ exhibition today.

Scroll to take a wander with me through some of my favourites.

The Windmill towards the end is by Mondrian, his earlier work is very different from the bold geometric compositions that everyone is more familiar with. My photo doesn’t do it justice but the colours perfectly capture the dusky mood of a sunset.

So many other pieces by the likes of Monet, Van Gogh, Caillebotte, Cassatt, Cezane, Degas and more.

It’s a very different experience these days when you have to dodge the Instagrammers who need multiple photos of themselves in front of the artwork with little regard for the actual art and more emphasis on how their hair looks.
